Anna Roussou is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Patras. She received her BA in Philology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1984-1988). She received her MA in Linguistics (1990) and her PhD in Linguistics (1994) from the University of London (UCL). She taught Linguistics as a Lecturer at the University of Wales in Bangor (1992-1998), and then as an Assistant Professor at the University of Cyprus, at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (English programme, 1998-2001). She has been teaching Linguistics at the Department of Philology, University of Patras, since 2001. She held a position as a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 1997 and 2009, and was an Honorary Research Fellow at UCL for the period 2006-2007. She has presented her research in international conferences and colloquia and has given talks in various Universities in Europe and America.
Her research interests are in Theoretical Linguistics, and in particular in syntactic theory (crosslinguistic variation, parameters), in the relation of syntax with the (mental) lexicon, morphology and semantics. She is also interested in language change and language development. She has a significant number of publications in international journals and books. She is the author of three books (one co-authored), and co-editor of the Journal of Greek Linguistics (published by Brill, Leiden) since 2006. She has served as an editorial board member of journals (Lingua, Biolinguistics), and has systematically acted as a reviewer of articles and conference presentations. She has also taken part in various research projects. She served as a Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Personnel at the University of Patras (2010-2012), member of the Lifelong Learning Coucncil (2013) and is currently director of the “Greek Language and Culture Lab” of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Patras.
